I have not forgotten this film. Forgotten how bad is was.
My wife lucked out. She fell asleep half way into it.

You said that the Squid and Whale feels like the silence before the punch-line and that that has been a negative aspect in this, and most other indie comedies, but really that the fact that these characters don't spell out their emotions gives the movie an even more personal and intimate feeling. Instead of just watching the characters grow, you have to be actively involved in the scene and actually experience it. My biggest problem with the movie is that Papa Berkman doesn't reveal any appealing characteristics. Throughout the entire film he remains an insecure, asshole poser, whose only potentially endearing trait is his insecurity, which is ruined due to his pretentious, asshole response to it. Other than that, great movie. Hilarious and hopeful, I would recommend it for anyone who wants to laugh at and embrace their inner philistine.

What a wonderful film! I loved it. Philippe Petit is charming and delightful. A master of his work. I have his book and loved this film. Magical and terrifying. Everyone should see this film. I hope it will be nominated for an oscar for best documentary next year! I love rebels and Philippe petit is the best rebel of all!
